Andy Murray has employed his ranking of world No 2 to enter Great Britain.
Murray had to utilize his ranking to acquire Great Britain into the team contest in Sydney in January – where every tie has two singles and a doubles rubber – as 32nd-ranked Kyle Edmund was not high enough to qualify.
Speaking on Thursday, the Scot said:”When I use my shielded (ranking), I will behave as the number one participant. If you’re playing in a contest like that I think, the best player should be picked to perform .
“The Australian Open are the priority for me. And I really don’t wish to go there and not play with any matches. Thus, I am finding that quite a challenging decision to make.”
The Scot is simply in the infancy of his comeback against the trendy operation that rescued his career, playing just 3 sisters championships, but he can come back to the ATP Tour in a fortnight, with recently dropped down to Challenger level for the very first time in 14 years, after he heads to China.
He’ll play with three tournaments in China – at Zhuhai, Beijing and Shanghai – until returning to Antwerp to the European Open.
The 32-year-old, that has fallen to 415 at the world rankings making him that the British 13, is hopeful of being chosen for the November 18-24 Finals in Madrid in Britain’s Davis Cup team.
“I’m quite pro team competitions in tennis, I simply don’t like the week which it (the ATP Cup) is at all. Have done. I really don’t like that there is two team competitions six weeks apart either. It absolutely doesn’t make sense,” he added.
