15 Oct Hull FC veteran Gareth Ellis signs new deal for 2020 season
Former Great Britain forward Gareth Ellis is to play on into his year after signing a contract.
Hull have also continued their recruiting to a yearlong deal, from Leigh with the addition of former Hull KR utility player Joe Cator, 21.
Ellis, who will be 39 next May, hung up his boots at the end of 2017 to become the soccer director of Hull but came out of retirement a fortnight and helped a run of 13 consecutive defeats halts.
He will be, by a distance, the oldest player in Super League next year and may even break the record of prior Bradford and Catalans Dragons second-rower Steve Menzies, that was three weeks short of his 40th birthday when he played his last game for the French club at 2013.
Ellis stated:Following my initial comeback early in 2019, I did not expect to be in and around the squad for the remaining portion of the season. I thought it would be a little bit of a swansong for me.
But I had that taste and it made me realise that I was still enjoying playing that turned into me playing 20 matches thats pretty much a complete season for me personally.
It was probably about 10 or 15 games into the time when folks began asking me that the question concerning if I believed I might go around back in 2020. And with how I had been feeling, I had been pretty sure I was able to achieve that.
Ellis, who played for Wakefield, Leeds and Wests Tigers, has produced over 350 looks in the NRL and Super League, winning two Grand Final rings in the process and two Challenge Cups with Hull.
Hull trainer Radford stated:The function he will play for us will be much different to the one that he played with a few years ago, but as he evolves and succeeds hell be equally as significant.
He brings a wealth of experience and leadership qualities that he will pass to the remainder of the squad and carries himself with the utmost professionalism, as we saw on and off the field last year
Meanwhile, Hull-born Cator adds and becomes Radfords eighth registering for 2020 utility value having an ability to play hooker back-row and centre to his group.
Radford stated:Joe plays a very impressive mindset and I believe that can be very infectious.
His usefulness value is enormous, being able to play at loose-froward or hooker. Our squad is smaller in size for 2020 but his utility makes up for this.
