Roger Federer cruised to the US Open quarter-finals, thrashing 15th seed David Goffin 6-2 6-2 6-0 in just 78 minutes.
The Swiss five-time winner dropped a break but won six matches in a row to establish control in the fourth-round match.
While Goffin could only manage eight, federer, 38, hit 34 winners.
He will confront uttered Grigor Dimitrov at the last eight.
Dimitrov, a former world number three whose standing has dropped to 78, beat on Australian Alex p Minaur 7-5 6-3 6-4.
Federer said of the win:”It was excellent. David did not have his very best day he had been fighting. I was had to return mentally.
“But then when I was a break up I began to feel as though he wasn’t playing the same manner and that I was really happy with my level of play.”
The sets had dropped his opening two matches in both, but played with a swagger when he conquer number two Dan Evans within 80 moments in the round.
This kind continued together with the winning less than half Federer’s total of 83, against Goffin.
Federer booked his place in the quarter-finals for the time in New York using a gorgeous passing. The prospect of a semi-final against world number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic is more after the Serb quit his match against Swiss seed Stan Wawrinka.
Should Federer make it into the final, he could come up against second seed Rafael Nadal for its first time at the US Open.
