Roger Federer suffered a shock 3-6 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-2 defeat at the quarter-finals of this US Open at the hands of Grigor Dimitrov.
The Grand Slam winner’d seemed destined for a box-office final against Rafael Nadal in what would have become the rivals’ first meeting in Flushing Meadows.
But that script with victory awakened on the Swiss, that needed a and appeared out of sorts through a five-set conquer, hitting at 60 unforced mistakes.
Dimitrov had obtained just two sets off him, and had not beaten Federer in any of their seven games.
In the last four, Dimitrov will face Daniil Medvedev, who pumped out Stan Wawrinka to hit his first Grand Slam semi.
