18 Oct Washington Capitals vs Dallas Stars NHL Pick – October 12th
Another fantastic Saturday of NHL action is set to perform out on October 12. Fourteen matches are around the board during Saturday. Among the matches set to return will be between the Dallas Stars and the Washington Capitals. These two teams are thought to be contenders this season. This match will faceoff at about 8:00 PM Eastern time on Saturday night.
Washington has started out the year with a record of 2-1-2, which includes them. Though the Capitals are still sitting at the divisions cover, this was not the beginning theyd planned. Washington has lost their past three games after a 2-0 start to the season. The Capitals will seem to get back on the right track with a road victory on Saturday night.
The Stars are now in fifth place of their Central Division. Dallas has not been away to the start they hoped for later making some huge moves in the offseason. The Stars have made points in their past two matches, but will appear to build up a winning streak to get back to a winning record early in this season.
Both the Capitals and the Stars both have a whole lot of talent on their roster because they both made playoff runs past season. Washington was pumped out of seven games, before being pumped out, while Dallas moved on into the second round. These two teams have not had the best begins but will perform in an early summer matchup on Saturday night.
Dallas and washington fulfilled two during last season. The first game was in Washington. Even the Stars jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but the Capitals were able to fight back. Jason Dickinson ended the comeback bid of Washington in overtime though. The next match was hosted by the Stars and it was another one. Tyler Seguin scored his second goal of the night in overtime to give Dallas the win.
The Stars and the Capitals have met up this year . The scoring opened with a goal in the first period. John Carlson gave Washington the return after this was tied by Roope Hintz up. Nicklas Backstrom played hero as he played thirty minutes left in the match to tie this up. Tyler Seguin finished the match though to give Dallas the 4-3 win.
Dallas was able to win the three games against Washington heading back to last year. The Stars only win this year came against the Capitals on the road and they will look to make their second win of this season also against Washington. Both of these teams have been within one goal of each other in eight of their last nine matchups against each other, which makes me expect another game on Saturday.
The Capitals have had a lot of power play opportunities to acquire their special teams moving so far this season. Washington has scored four power play goals on twenty opportunities this year. The Capitals penalty kill was performing well also, stopping opponents on twelve of their power play opportunities that are fifteen. Washington will appear to maintain these numbers up .
Dallas special teams hasnt been doing on this season. The Stars have just scored one power play goal on two chances this year to get a 7.14 power play percentage. Dallas has dedicated twenty-one penalties, but have just allowed three goals to get an 85.71 penalty kill percentage.
As they look to acquire their power play moving, the Stars will probably look to alter some things up entering Saturday nights matchup. Both teams have put up a good penalty kill on the season, however, Washington has a slight advantage as their power play has been working. Together with Alexander Ovechkin on the power play it is dangerous and Dallas will look to neutralize it.
Braden Holtby will likely get the nod in net within this game for the Capitals. Holtby has gone 1-1-2 within his starts thus far this year. He has earned a save percentage of .868 along with a GAA of 3.67. Last season, Holtby travelled 32-19-5 with a .911 save percentage along with a 2.82 GAA. Holtby has not been off to a terrific start, but I expect him to get it going sooner rather than later.
Ben Bishop is expected to begin for Dallas on Saturday night. Bishop has really gone this season to 1-2-1. Hes posted a save percentage of .910 and a 2.48 GAA. Bishop was a Vezina Trophy finalist last year as he finished with a record of 27-15-2. In those games he had a .934 save percentage and a GAA of all 1.98 to assist lead the Stars into the playoffs.
Neither goalie has been away to the start, but so far this season has been set by Bishop. Bishop had the better season last season, but Holtby remains a strong starting netminder. I expect him to turn around this difficult start. I think because he looks to provide a win to the Capitals Holtby will try to find some revenge against the Stars.
The Stars were able to choose the first match of the season series between these two teams, but I feel that Washington will bounce straight back with a road win in their own. Neither team was off to an perfect start, but Dallas has not been performing much better than the Capitals. Washington teams might help provide them an increase and if Holtby may find his groove, then it might help the Capitals pull off the road upset.
BetOnline has Dallas listed as a -115 against the cash line. This suggests that the Stars will win this match around 53.5% of the time. I feel that this match needs to be closer in favor of their Capitals to even. Most of streaks come to an end, although washington is on a losing streak against Dallas. I believe that the Capitals may finish their three game slide with a road win against the Stars on Saturday night.
